I am too wired

On a quick foray around the internet today, one thing has become alarmingly clear to me: I am too wired in.

I have e-mail accounts through Yahoo, Gmail, and half a dozen other indie servers, on top of my work and school accounts. I check them all regularly.

I have profile/blog pages on LiveJournal, MySpace, InkedNation, BME, LinkedIn, Biznik and probably a few more I've forgotten about by now. Although I regularly check in and read the goings-on of the lives of all my friends and acquaintances, I tend not to be very productive on my own pages. Just signing up for them, at times, can seem like some sort of addiction. Want to try the next greatest thing? Want to "start over" and create yourself anew? Want to finally do something with your time in cyberspace?

There are also a variety of IM-chatty-type services that I have been known to employ... but I won't even begin to make that list.

It's one thing to be accessible. It's another thing to be well-connected. But, let's get real. Despite having usernames and passwords to what feels like half the sites on the internet, none of my profiles are particularly well-developed. Most of them are half-assed, and created as an afterthought to some great project that I should have been starting at the time. At times, I feel like I've just sprinkled little bits of myself throughout the cyber universe so fast and furiously, without any planning or consideration. I feel lost in between the pages of the cyber life web.
